Day 1 in Zurich: City Tour and the Lindt Home of Chocolate

Get Your Guide Tour

For Day 1 in Zurich, we kicked off with a city tour to soak in the sights and history, followed by a sweet stop at the Lindt Home of Chocolate. Here’s a breakdown of the day, complete with stunning views, iconic landmarks, and the perfect Swiss chocolate experience.

Starting the Day with a Zurich City Tour

The city tour was the ideal way to begin our journey. It provided an overview of Zurich’s highlights while ensuring we didn’t miss anything important. Here are some of the key moments:

1. Lake Zurich:

We were treated to spectacular views of Lake Zurich—calm, expansive, and picture-perfect even on a cloudy day. The fountains added a serene touch, and the backdrop of hills and historic buildings made for an unforgettable scene. It’s the kind of spot that immediately sets the tone for a relaxing yet inspiring trip.

2. Historic Old Town:

As we strolled through the cobblestone streets, we came across historical gems like the engraved Winston Churchill memorial plaque from 1946. Moments like this connect Zurich’s rich history to its charming present, and walking through these spots felt like stepping back in time.

3. St. Peter’s Church:

One of Zurich’s iconic landmarks, the St. Peter’s Church, stood tall with its impressive clock face—the largest in Europe. The combination of history, architecture, and attention to detail was mesmerising.

This city tour gave us a well-rounded view of Zurich, balancing cultural insights with leisurely walks and photo opportunities. It’s the perfect introduction to the city for any first-time visitor.

A Sweet Stop: The Lindt Home of Chocolate

After soaking in Zurich’s sights, we couldn’t wait to experience the Lindt Home of Chocolate—a dream for any chocolate lover! Here’s what made this visit special:

Barbara from Brazil

• Interactive Exhibits: From learning about the history of Swiss chocolate to seeing how it’s made, the exhibits were engaging and informative.

• The Chocolate Fountain: The showstopper! We were greeted by a massive chocolate fountain—a true Willy Wonka moment that instantly made us smile.

• Sampling Heaven: Of course, the highlight was tasting freshly made chocolate. The rich flavours and variety were unmatched, and it was hard to resist grabbing some for later.

Chocolate and I are best friends—it understands me in a way nothing else does.

The Lindt experience wasn’t just a stop; it was a celebration of Swiss chocolate craftsmanship that added a unique, fun twist to the day.

Why This Day Was Perfect

Combining the city tour with a visit to the Lindt Home of Chocolate was the best way to start our journey. We got to:

• Familiarise ourselves with Zurich’s key landmarks and history.

• Enjoy beautiful views, including Lake Zurich and Old Town.

• Indulge in a memorable, sweet experience at the Lindt Home of Chocolate.

Evening: Zurich Christmas Market and Enchanting Carols

As the sun set, the magic of Zurich came alive at the Christmas markets. Paulus and I wandered through the beautifully decorated stalls, enjoying the festive atmosphere and delicious treats.

• We warmed up with a steaming cup of hot cider and tasted local delights like freshly grilled sausages and bread.

• The highlight of the evening was experiencing the Christmas carols performed on a beautifully lit stage designed to look like a massive Christmas tree. The choir, dressed in red and green, filled the night air with heartwarming melodies that made the market feel like something out of a storybook.

The Singing Tree

The twinkling lights, cheerful music, and cosy ambiance made this an unforgettable way to end our first day in Zurich.

By the end of the day, we felt like we had truly arrived in Zurich. The balance of sightseeing and fun ensured our first day was both relaxing and productive.

Final Thoughts

If you’re visiting Zurich, starting with a city tour and the Lindt Home of Chocolate is highly recommended. It’s a stress-free way to explore the city, enjoy its charm, and indulge in one of Switzerland’s most famous exports. Zurich has so much to offer, and this first day sets the perfect tone for the days ahead.
