14th December 2024: A Scenic Train Journey to Swiss Holiday Park in Morschach

A Festive Swiss Escape

Switzerland during Christmas feels like stepping into a postcardβ€”snow-capped mountains, lush valleys, and charming villages draped in winter magic. If Zurich is the vibrant city that welcomes you to Switzerland, then Morschach and its Swiss Holiday Park are where tranquillity and adventure come together.

On 14th December 2024, we continued our Zurich experience with a scenic train journey to Morschach, a quiet, picturesque village overlooking Lake Lucerne. The destination? Swiss Holiday Parkβ€”the perfect mix of relaxation, fun, and breathtaking Swiss scenery.

Why Visit Morschach and Swiss Holiday Park?

After exploring Zurich’s bustling streets and festive markets, we craved a peaceful yet exciting continuation of our trip. Morschach, located above Lake Lucerne, was everything we hoped for and more.

Breathtaking Views:

As you can see from the photos, Morschach is surrounded by rolling green valleys, wooden chalets, and dramatic snow-capped peaks. The moment we arrived, the crisp air and stunning panoramas made the journey worth it.

Swiss Holiday Park:

This family-friendly resort is Switzerland’s largest holiday and leisure destination. It offers a little something for everyoneβ€”thermal baths for relaxation, indoor pools, winter activities, and even spa facilities. Whether you’re travelling with family or as a couple, it’s a great escape from the busy city life of Zurich.

The Train Journey: Scenic and Serene

The train journey from Zurich to Morschach is an experience in itself. Swiss trains are world-famous for their comfort and punctuality, but what makes them unforgettable is the views. As the train glided through lush green fields and climbed into the misty, snow-covered hills, we couldn’t help but admire the beauty outside the window.

Travelling through Switzerland by train feels like watching a live painting come to lifeβ€”one with endless shades of green, white, and blue. Keep your camera ready because every moment feels Instagram-worthy!

Arriving at Swiss Holiday Park

Once we reached Morschach, we made our way to Swiss Holiday Park, and it felt like entering a winter wonderland. The park sits on a hill surrounded by mountains and valleys, giving visitors uninterrupted views of the stunning landscape.

A Perfect Lunch at Restaurant Hirschen in Morschach

After an unforgettable train journey to Morschach, our first stop was Restaurant Hirschenβ€”a cosy spot that instantly made us feel welcome. The restaurant delivered exactly what we were looking for: hearty food, a warm atmosphere, and a taste of Swiss hospitality.

Hirschen in Morschach was the authentic and mouth-watering Γ„lpler Cordon Bleu mit KΓ€se vom LiplisbΓΌelβ€”a true taste of Swiss cuisine.

This dish featured a perfectly breaded and fried Cordon Bleu, filled with creamy, rich cheese sourced from LiplisbΓΌel, a local alpine dairy renowned for its high-quality produce. The golden crust gave way to the melty, flavourful cheese, making every bite a delightful experience.

Served alongside:

β€’ Pommes Frites: Crispy, golden fries that were a perfect match for the Cordon Bleu.

β€’ GemΓΌse: A colourful mix of steamed vegetables, including carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower, adding a fresh and balanced touch to the meal.

While I savoured the delicious Γ„lpler Cordon Bleu, Paulus opted for a hearty and flavour-packed Steak vom Schwein (pork steak) served with all the perfect accompaniments.

The tender pork steak was cooked to perfectionβ€”juicy on the inside and beautifully seared on the outside. It was topped with a rich, herb butter that melted slowly, infusing every bite with a burst of savoury flavour.

On the side:

β€’ RΓΆsti: Golden, crispy potato croquettes that were delightfully crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.

β€’ GemΓΌse: A medley of vibrant steamed vegetablesβ€”broccoli, carrots, and cauliflowerβ€”adding colour and balance to the dish.

Paired with a refreshing Swiss beer, Paulus’ meal was both hearty and satisfyingβ€”just what we needed after our morning journey to Morschach.

A Hearty Breakfast to Start the Day

The next morning, as I soaked in the stunning Swiss scenery from our cosy accommodation, Paulus took charge of breakfast, creating a feast to fuel the day’s adventures.

On the menu:

β€’ Huge Sausages: Juicy, flavourful, and perfectly brownedβ€”true comfort food.

β€’ Mashed Potatoes: Creamy and buttery, adding a delicious and hearty side.

β€’ Eggs: Lightly cooked to perfection, completing the meal with a classic touch.

Paulus’ breakfast was not only delicious but also filled the apartment with a warm, inviting aroma. There’s nothing better than a home-cooked breakfast, especially with the backdrop of Switzerland’s breathtaking mountains just outside the window.

It was the perfect way to kick off another day of exploring and enjoying our Swiss holiday.
